UNIVERSITY OF SPLIT SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

Dear students, employees and associates,
Today is the 26th March 2020 and we are celebrating the 23rd Anniversary of the University of Split School of Medicine, the Day of the School!
The planned activities for the Day of the School have been postponed, but they will take place as soon as circumstances permit. Meanwhile, we should all contribute by behaving responsibly and following all the instructions of the national authorities, the University and our School so that this can happen as soon as possible.
I would like to thank you all for your understanding, and especially for your positive and constructive responses to all the bad news received in the last few weeks that would have been impossible to imagine a few months ago. This has personally empowered me in my faith and efforts to find a quick and adequate solution so that these adversities do not hinder our future activities.
We have established daily communication with the Ministries to resolve the issue of losing the rooms and facilities on the 4th and 5th floors of Building A. They understand the situation and we hope to have some good news soon. I ask for patience of all those (about fifty of us) who have lost their work spaces, offices and laboratories. I hope that all of us will see our concerns alleviated in the upcoming months.
I would like to thank everyone, students and teachers, who are currently doing distance teaching and learning in Merlin, and also thank the hardworking IT staff who have been and still are a great support in this process. The experience that we are gaining together will continue to be valuable to us in the future, so we can see this as a silver lining in this situation.
In particular, I would like to ask all our students not to worry about exams and grades, deadlines and conditions right now. Rest assured, all of us at the School, teachers, associates, administration and management, have it in our common interest to end this academic year successfully. We will do everything to make it happen. We are relatively young, flexible and truly one of the best Schools of Medicine, and we are going to prove it even in these circumstances.
Once again, I ask you that we stand together in this and communicate well, students through their representatives and the Student Council, employees through their Heads of Departments/Offices, so that we can be informed in a timely manner, but also so that we can all keep track of each other and be ready to offer help if anyone needs it. Each and every day.
We are still in the phase of adjusting to this new situation and it is understandable that we are sometimes uncertain about what to do in certain situations. Therefore, in this moment, subordination is even more important and it is the only way to function efficiently. In the next days, through cooperation, we will develop this system even better.
Finally, I would like to mark the Day of the School at least in the way I mentioned in the somewhat humorous "Decision" (because I personally have gotten a little bit tired of all of the decisions in the last days) and show that we stand together albeit virtually but also in spirit in these extremely difficult times.
May our SCHOOL OF MEDICINE IN SPLIT live long, evolve and prosper in every respect!
