Predavanje na temu Text Recycling (AKA 'Self-Plagiarism') in Research Writing

Profesor Cary Moskovitz s Duke University (Sjedinjene Američke Države) u utorak, 22. travnja s početkom u 15 sati u dvorani B101 na Medicinskom fakultetu u Splitu (Šoltanska 2) održat će predavanje na temu "Text Recycling (AKA 'Self-Plagiarism') in Research Writing: Complications and Best Practices".

OPIS PREDAVANJA: U svojim novim radovima istraživači često znaju ponovno koristiti sadržaj iz onih prethodnih. Neke se upotrebe recikliranja teksta općenito smatraju prikladnima; ipak druge se generalno osuđuju. Ovo predavanje predstavit će etičke i pravne složenosti ponovnog korištenja tekstova u istraživačkom pisanju, predstaviti novu taksonomiju recikliranja teksta i objasniti najbolje prakse ponovnog korištenja materijala u nizu istraživačkih konteksta.

LECTURE DESCRIPTION: Researchers often have reason to reuse content from their prior papers in their new ones (descriptions of methods, background material, theoretical frameworks, and so on). Some uses of text recycling are widely considered appropriate; others are universally condemned. This talk will present the ethical and legal complexities of text recycling in research writing, present a new taxonomy of text recycling, and explain best practices for recycling material across a range of research contexts.

BIOGRAFIJA: Cary Moskovitz is Professor of the Practice in Writing at Duke University, where he served as Director of Writing in the Disciplines from 2005-2024. He holds a Ph.D. in aerospace engineering from North Carolina State University and a Master of Architecture degree from Virginia Tech.  Cary is founder and Director of the Text Recycling Research Project, funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation. His articles and essays related to writing pedagogy and text recycling have appeared in such publications as The Chronicle of Higher Education, Science, Research Integrity and Peer Review, Science and Engineering Ethics, and the Journal of College Science Teaching.
