The aim of the Pathology course is to teach students the fundamentals of pathology and to introduce them to the study of various diseases from both an anatomical and pathophysiological perspective, with a strong emphasis on clinicopathologic correlations.
Pathology serves as the bridge between the basic medical sciences—such as anatomy, histology, biochemistry, and physiology—on one hand, and clinical medicine on the other. During this course, students will learn to recognize abnormal morphological changes in cells, tissues, and organs, and to relate these changes to the altered functions of the affected structures. They will also study the pathogenesis of various pathological lesions, that is, the mechanisms leading to pathologic changes. The clinical consequences of altered morphology and function will be discussed to highlight the clinical orientation of the entire course.
The course will be delivered through lectures, seminars, and practical sessions. It will include the study of autopsies, microscopic slides, and both visual and textual materials available in electronic form, as well as the required textbooks.
Class attendance is mandatory, including lectures, seminars, and practical sessions.
If a student misses a class, they are required to attend a make-up colloquium with a teaching assistant.
Students who do not meet the attendance requirements, including the make-up colloquia, will not be allowed to take the partial exams or the final test.
