Third period

Results of the third project period (July - December 2011)
Analysis of animals in a 2-week experiment has been completed and analyisis of 2-month experiments is almost done, first publication with project results is being prepared. Based on the first results of calcium/calmodulin protein kinase-II (CaMKII) expression, the main part of the project has begun - pharmacological testing. Project results were presented at EFIC meeting in Hamburg, Germany. Two doctoral thesis proposals and one undergraduate thesis proposals have been submitted based on the project results. Two additional doctoral thesis proposals from young researchers who have been educated in this project have also been submitted. Collaboration with a number of other laboratories has been established. A tissue bank of diabetic rats is being generated for further research. Western blot analysis was introduced.
