First period

Results of the first project period (July - December 2010)
First lecture about the project was done, a job opening was posted and chemical technology engineer Lejla Ferhatovic was hired. All administrative steps for obtaining approvals for animal use by two Croatian ministries were completed, order for laboratory animals was placed, project web site was built, initial induction of diabetic models was successfully achieved and preliminary results were presented at the World Pain Congress. There were no unforeseen negative results or obstacles.
Furthermore, collaboration was established with the Laboratory of Biochemistry at School of Medicine in Split and its head, pofessor Anita Markotic, as well as with Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases at University Hospital Split. Based on this collaboration, we received donation of equipment for measuring blood glucose. Consultation with sub-specialists in the field of endocrinology is vital for this project so that our studies could be clinically relevant.
