A doctoral thesis (dissertation) is required of every candidate for the Ph.D. degree. The form of the thesis must conform to the instructions set forth by the Committee for Doctoral Theses of the University of Split School of Medicine.
Publications
Prior to the thesis defense, students need to publish 2 original manuscripts in journals indexed in Current Contents (CC) with an impact factor higher than 1.00. At least one of these two manuscripts has to be based on the proposed Ph.D. thesis.
Oral defense
Students are required to have an oral defense of the doctoral thesis. The oral defense will be public. The Committee for thesis defense will attend the defense. After a student presents the thesis, the Committee and the audience will ask questions in public. After the defense, the Committee will confer to determine whether awarding the Ph.D. title is appropriate given the quality of the thesis and the defense.
