Nobel Days: Nobel Laureates at USSM

The University of Split School of Medicine (USSM) will welcome 4 Nobel Laureates in September 2019 as part of the project „Nobel Days“. This way USSM will become one of very few institutions in the world which will in such a short period of time welcome this number of winners of the most prestigious scientific award in the world. Because of the high importance, the event will be open to the public and everybody interested will be able to come and listen to the lectures, as well as the panel discussion – Nobel Talk.
Organizers of the „Nobel Days“ are student societies of the University of Split School of Medicine – NeuroSplit and CPSA, the University of Split School of Medicine, St. Catherine Specialty Hospital and the International Society for Applied Biological Sciences (ISABS).
Such a unique opportunity is rare anywhere in the world. This way, we want to acknowledge Split and the Republic of Croatia as one of the most attractive scientific centers in the region and beyond. During the evening hours of the 3rd and 4th of September, in the amphitheatre of the Split School of Medicine, Nobel Laureates will give lectures on their extraordinary discoveries as well as participate in the panel discussion – Nobel Talk. The following Nobel Laureates will join us at the Nobel Days:
 
•    Joachim Frank, a biophysicist, received the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2017 for the development of a cryostatic electron microscope.
•    Richard Roberts, a biochemist, and molecular biologist received the Nobel Prize for Medicine or Physiology for the Discovery of Separated Genes.
•    Georg Bednorz, mineralogist, and physicist, received the Nobel Prize in Physics for the discovery of Superconducting Ceramic Materials at 35 Kelvin.
•    Harald zur Hausen, a German virologist, received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2008 for the discovery of the role of human papillomavirus in the development of cervical cancer. Harald zur Hausen's lecture will be held on September 24th as a special event within the month of awareness of reproductive health.
