Course description

In the third study year, the course focusses on evidence-based medicine practical skills.
 
Competencies:
Overall, the students will demonstrate competencies in finding and concrete application of information based on best available evidence, in clinically relevant situations, specifically oriented towards execution and assessment of clinical trials.
Using concrete examples from clinical trials, students will develop the following competencies in evidence-based medicine and practice:
a) formulating of a relevant clinical questions about a patient in PICO format (patient, intervention, comparison, outcome),
b) using defined key words from PICO in relation to MeSH search terminology to search literature,
c) design search strategy of bibliographic databases, with particular reference to Cochrane Library,
d) recognizing, classification and assessment of systematic review and metaanalyses,
e) finding and using medical information specific for a patient,
f) critical assessment of evidence,
g) define basic concepts in quality assessment of health care, including work in multidisciplinary teams and patient-centered care,
i) apply principles of quality of health care in solving concrete problems in health care organization. Print page
